Our Reading and Writing tutors are experienced New York State certified teachers who, through one-on-one assessment, modify the program to each individual learner's needs. The program is designed for students from 7th grade through 10th grade.

The Program
The ultimate goal of reading and writing tutoring is to build a student's comprehension skills, writing skills, and communication skills. These literacy skills are necessary for all subjects, not just ELA. LITE helps students develop the sensory-cognitive processes that underlie reading and comprehension. Whether a student needs intense remediation or a bridge to prevent learning loss, LITE's enrichment program helps students become skilled, avid readers and writers.
Reading
LITE's reading tutoring provides the integration of instruction and practice in both comprehension strategies and skills. Strategies, such as visualizing or asking questions, help readers to better understand and engage with the text. Skills, such as finding a main idea or identifying a sequence of events, help students focus on specific text elements that aid comprehension.
Writing
LITE offers specialized instruction for writing tutoring. Students learn how to become effective writers by first understanding the significance of the writing process, which includes prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing. They then progress to effective ways to write a story, to write to inform, and to write an argument.

To register your student in the program, please complete the registration form below. You can pay the registration fee by clicking the link below, or you can mail a check made payable to Long Island Tutoring & Enrichment. Please note that tutoring time slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Your child is not guaranteed a spot in the program until your registration form and fee are received and processed.
