ACT and SAT Tutoring Program

The ACT and SAT

Every college and university in the country accepts both ACT and SAT. These standardized test scores are used for college admissions decisions and for awarding merit-based scholarships. Each test measures a student’s proficiency in various critical skill areas that are necessary for college success. The ACT and the SAT generally cover the same topics, such as grammar, math, and reading; however, the ACT places a greater emphasis on science.

Although the material tested is similar to both ACT and SAT, the test styles are quite different. On the SAT, questions are more evidence and context-based with a focus on multi-step problem-solving. On the ACT, questions are more straightforward and, therefore, less difficult to decipher. Students tend to favor the ACT over the SAT because the design of the ACT is more analogous to the design of the assessments used to in school.

The Program

  • LITE offers both one-on-one tutoring and small-group classes.
  • Each student begins the program with a diagnostic ACT and/or SAT exam, which the tutor uses to both assess the student's strengths and weaknesses and manage the curriculum accordingly.
  • Statistically, rote test prep practices lead to both ineffective teaching and lower student performance. That is why LITE students follow a carefully crafted curriculum (that covers material on both ACT and SAT) so that they learn the material, not just how to take the test.
  • Student progress is monitored through weekly homework assignments and quizzes.
  • Students are given the opportunity to take timed, proctored practice exams. More exposure to the ACT and SAT means less anxiety on test day, better time management, and proper testing endurance.

One-on-One Tutoring

One-on-One Tutoring

One-on-One Tutoring

Students meet with their tutors in our Melville center weekly for one-hour sessions throughout the year. The curriculum is customized to meet the individual learner's academic needs. Every student's start and end time is different. Sessions begin soon after a student registers in our program and takes his/her diagnostic exam.

Small-Group Classes

One-on-One Tutoring

One-on-One Tutoring

Taught by LITE owner Michele Brower, our small-group classes are designed to prepare students for the ACT exams. Different perspectives and learning styles create a dynamic, engaging learning environment for our students.

Remote Tutoring

Remote Tutoring

We offer one-on-one tutoring using both FaceTime/Zoom and an interactive whiteboard tool for effective remote learning. Distance learning is an excellent option for quarantining, international, and home-schooled students.

Shining LITE on Our Success

  • Our recent LITE student, who is currently attending Yale, was named a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist and received a perfect score of 36 on his ACT.
  • 2 of our students received perfect scores on their most recent ACTs. We are eagerly awaiting to hear about their college acceptances and scholarship offers.
  • Our full-year students see an average gain of 10 points on the ACT and 400 points on the SAT.
  • Over 90% of our students score in the 90th+ percentile on the ACT and/or SAT.
  • Our students receive an average of $85K in annual merit scholarship money.
  • Over 95% of LITE students gain admission to the top college of their choosing.
  • LITE helps student-athletes earn their target scores to solidify athletic scholarships.
  • Our students learn how to manage their time effectively. Many LITE students report overall academic improvement throughout the course of the program.
